The Grizzly football season has been extended into December this year after Montana secured the #8 seed for the 2013 FCS playoffs, and that’s likely a large factor to the announcement Wednesday that head coach Mick Delaney’s contract has also been extended.
University of Montana athletic director Kent Haslam announced Wednesday that Delaney’s contract has been extended an extra year, now lasting until Jan. 31, 2015, pending approval by the Montana Board of Regents.
"It's a very humbling experience again as it has been to still be involved in college athletics, particularly here at the University of Montana," said Delaney. "You know none of this would happen if it weren't for the great commitment by our kids, and my coaches are just a tremendous group of guys that work so hard to make sure we are on the right track doing the right thing both on and off the field. Couldn't be more thankful with tomorrow being Thanksgiving."
Delaney, currently in the second year of a two-year contract, has posted a record of 15-8 so far but a record of 10-2 over the course of the 2013 season. Delaney is in his 29th season of coaching at the college level.
