BELGRADE, Mont. -

An early morning apartment fire Sunday in Belgrade displaced several families and killed one family's dog. As officials continue their investigation, we headed to the scene to bring you the facts on what happened.

When we arrived on scene we met Michelle Goodwin. She could see the flames from her apartment just across the street early Sunday morning. As a nurse, she said her first instinct was to take action.

“The first thing is adrenaline rush, and then you go help,” said Goodwin.

Goodwin told us she threw up her hair, put her shoes on and rushed to make sure everybody was okay. Fire officials say all four apartments were evacuated and no one was hurt. When we arrived at the apartment complex late Sunday morning, investigators were still there trying to piece together the puzzle.

We spoke to Officer Joe Swanson. He is a fire arson investigator with the Bozeman Police Department. He said the investigation into what caused the fire could take hours.

“We will do our best to sift through the debris here and see if we can make an origin in cause initially," said Swanson.

We were told the damage to the apartment is extensive but, it is too early in the investigation to decide the fate of the building.

Goodwin said her main concern is with the families who lost so much.

"We need to come together more as a community and neighborhood to help these people," said Goodwin.

Officials have been in touch with the Red Cross to help the people displaced by this fire.
