Fire burning near Polson
MISSOULA, Mont. -

A fire broke out west of Polson before 8:00 this evening.

Carey Cooley of the Tribal Division of Fire tells NBC Montana the fire is burning in the Irvine Flats and Camis Road area, less than a mile from Kerr Dam.

Pictures people are taking in the area show a lot of smoke shooting up into the sky.

Tribal Division of Fire, Polson, Ronan and Finley Point fire crews worked to save structures.

The fire has grown to more than 100 acres.  It could be more. Nightfall makes it difficult to estimate size.

The fire started on the north side of the Flathead River.

Flames jumped the Flathead River and threatened a community of homes below Kerr Dam.

Crews saved all the structures.  Nobody has been hurt.

Cooley says crews have the bulk of it knocked down.

Firefighters will be on the scene all night conducting burn outs.

Cooley reports there was no lightning in the area but the official cause of the fire is still under investigation.
