BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Witnesses alerted NBC Montana to a new forest fire burning southwest of Whitehall, near Twin Bridges.

Calls to the Forest Service confirmed the Hells Canyon Fire, six and a half miles west of Silver Star, is burning at 125 acres.

Forest Service Public Information Officer Leona Rodreick tells NBC Montana they were dispatched to the fire Saturday afternoon.

Madison County and the Forest Service currently have 11 engines on the fire, and volunteer fire fighters from Twin Bridges and Sheridan are helping fight the blaze.

Rodreick said they've called in five air tankers and a Type I helicopter, and are ordering more resources. She said they hope to get three Type I hot shot crews on scene.

Currently one structure is threatened- the Forest Service's Hells Canyon cabin. Rodreick said the building is one mile south of the fire.

No roads are closed at this time, Rodreick said, because of the remoteness of the fire.

She said weather is going to be a big challenge for crews, as more lightning storms move through the area.

The Forest Service is still trying to determine the cause of the fire.

NBC Montana will continue to get the latest information and post updates as they are available.
