KALISPELL, Mont. -

A man is still at large west of Kalispell after high speed chase and foot pursuit.

The suspect being sought is identified as Ryan Denny, 29 years of age, from Kalispell.

Wednesday, September 19th shortly before 9 pm an attempted vehicle theft was reported at the K-Mart lot in evergreen.

The theft was unsuccessful, and deputies were able to locate the suspect vehicle a short time later in the Village Green area.  Attempts to stop the vehicle were unsuccessful, and a pursuit ensued.

Deputies, assisted by Kalispell Police and Montana Highway Patrol, pursued the vehicle through Kalispell onto Highway 2 west.

The vehicle eventually became stuck on an unimproved road off Spruce Hollow Trail.  The driver and sole occupant fled on foot.  A search of the area for the suspect was unsuccessful.

Deputies were assisted in the search by the Montana Highway Patrol and the U.S Border Patrol, who responded with a K-9 and handler.

We talked with Jared and Anita Denney, no relation to the accused, who live near the intersection where officials set up the roadblock.

"I was out in the garage working on the four-wheeler and heard a bunch of sirens that sounded like they were coming from everywhere," said Jared Denney.

Jared alerted Anita, and she spotted the officers as soon as she pulled close to home.

"They were setting up something down below and eventually they came to us, probably about 10 minutes into it and told us to hurry quickly home because they were in pursuit of somebody," said Anita Denney.

The Denney’s intend to be on alert for the next few days, as the suspect, Ryan Denny, has already done time for assault with a weapon.

"Having kids you have to do whatever you can to protect them so we'll be locking our doors," Anita Denney said.

Anyone with information about Denny’s whereabouts is asked to contact the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office or Crimestoppers at 752-8477.

The investigation is ongoing by Detectives of the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office at this time.
