Former MSU-Northern hoops player faces drug charge
A former Montana State-Northern basketball player faces several charges after postal workers smelled marijuana in a package addressed to him.
Joe Simpson was arrested Oct. 23 and is charged with felony possession of dangerous drugs, possession with intent to distribute and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Simpson posted a $50,000 bond. University relations director Jim Potter says Simpson is on paid leave from his job in the admissions office during a university investigation.
Court records say drug task force agents with a search warrant found a small amount of marijuana, digital scales, a vacuum sealing machine and bags along with nearly $11,000 in cash and a gun during a search at Simpson's residence.
Simpson, who is from Pittsburgh, Calif., was the Frontier Conference defensive MVP for the 2011-12 season.
