BILLINGS, Mont. -

A former Billings school administrator faces seven charges, including felony theft, after more than $1,500 in electronics from the school district turned up at a pawn shop.

Dulce Whitford appeared before District Judge Ingrid Gustafson on Friday and pleaded not guilty to felony common scheme theft and five counts of misdemeanor unsworn falsification to authorities. She was released without bond.

The investigation began in November when a school district employee reported finding district electronics at a pawn shop. Police say Whitford soon became the primary suspect.

The school district began its own investigation and placed Whitford on leave. She resigned a short time later.

Whitford had been with the district since 2009 and made an annual salary of just over $94,000 as its director of Indian Education for All.
