BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Members of Gallatin County law enforcement ran the Flame of Hope through the county Friday.

The morning leg of the torch's 2,000-mile journey began in Three Forks and ended at with officers, deputies and Gallatin Co. Sheriff Brian Gootkin leading the flame down Main St. in Bozeman.

The torch is on it's way to Billings where it will be used to light the cauldron and mark the beginning of the Special Olympics State Summer Games.

Folks who participated, like Special Olympics athlete Julie Bertelsen, tell us the torch run brings everybody closer together.

"Everybody here is a family, we can see them laughing, giggling, they know they accomplish so much for the athletes." explained Bertelsen.

The final leg of the run will be May 15.

The Montana torch run began in 1985. Since then officers participating have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars for Special Olympics.
