Gallatin County deputies to patrol Three Forks
The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office will provide law enforcement for the town of Three Forks in western Montana starting this fall.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/16NSt9j) the Three Forks City Council on Tuesday approved a five-year contract to replace the town's police officers with sheriff's deputies.
Gallatin County deputies will take over Sept. 1 at a cost of $251,000 through the end of the year. After that the cost will be $300,000 annually.
The chief of the Three Forks Police Department resigned in February, leaving two patrol officers.
Gallatin County Sheriff Brian Gootkin says the change will mean Three Forks will have consistent coverage.
The deputies will be housed in a new substation on Main Street in Three Forks.
