Glacier Park shuttles start running to The Loop

Shuttle service began today at Glacier National Park from the Apgar Visitors Center up to The Loop. It is the first time this year that visitors have been able to get that far on the Going-to-the-Sun road.
Currently the road is closed to visitor traffic at Avalanche, but the shuttles can go farther. Visitors are excited to finally have the chance to get a little farther up on the road.
"We've been waiting for a week now to get up here," said park visitor Carol Sikinger.
Park officials tell us that less than ideal conditions and extreme weather have caused delays in clearing the rest of the road.
"So there's rock, mud, tree debris on the road so that needs to be cleared," said Glacier Park Public Affairs Assistant Jennifer Lutman. "Guard rails need to be installed and in some cases repaired."
The shuttle service will run from 9 A.M. until 7 P.M. seven days a week. Additional service will be added July 1st.
Park officials tell us they have no timeline for opening the rest of the road. It will depend on future weather conditions and how quickly crews can get the road cleared.
