WEST GLACIER, Mont. -

Workers are getting ready to open Going-to-the-Sun Road at Glacier National Park. Weather conditions determine when cars are allowed over Logan Pass, and this year the park is able to open earlier than usual.

They plan to open east side access this weekend, and west side access next weekend.

While the road will be open for visitors to use, park officials want to remind people to be safe, as weather conditions in the higher elevations of the road are different than what people may be used to for this time of the year.

"It's still winter at the higher alpine sections,” said Denise Germann, Glacier National Park’s Public Affairs Officer.  “So anybody that's either hiking biking or perhaps driving this weekend, please use extreme caution in snow, make sure you've got proper footwear, and just be very cautious."
