The two-week partial government shutdown cut Glacier National Park's October visitor numbers in half compared to last year, but overall visits so far this year are still ahead of last year's numbers.
Glacier was closed to visitors from Oct. 1 through Oct. 16 due to the shutdown. The park reported 25,965 visitors in October, down 52 percent from the 54,127 visitors in October 2012.
Visits for the first 10 months of the year - at just over 2.16 million - are ahead of the 2.13 million reported during the same period last year.
