GREAT FALLS, Mont. -

Horse racing is returning to Great Falls this summer after a two-year hiatus.

Cascade County commissioners voted 2-1 Thursday in favor of a contract with the Great Falls Turf Club to hold four days of racing in July.

Commissioner Joe Briggs voted against the contract, saying he believes the county will lose money. The contract calls for the county to contribute $20,000 to the club for running the races and $30,000 in purse money. The county will receive concessions revenue.

Supporters say racing can turn a profit following initial investments to get the track ready for racing.

Under the agreement, the club will produce a four-day meet sanctioned by the Montana Board of Horse Racing with racing on July 20-21 and July 27-28.
