MISSOULA, Mont. -

Missoula International Airport officials tell NBC Montana that a Minuteman Aviation helicopter crashed on airport land on Friday.

Officials tell NBC Montana that the helicopter is a Bell 206.  The two people on board walked away from the crash and refused medical attention. The incident occurred around 4 p.m.

“They are skilled professionals. Unfortunately, I don't know what caused it, but at the time they were low to the ground. So, they were lucky, any time you can walk away from that you're lucky,” said Airport Deputy Director Brian Ellestad.

Officials say responding agencies included the Missoula Rural Fire Department and Airport Fire.

Airport officials say the helicopter was on its side following the crash and it is unknown at this time what caused the helicopter to go down.

Airport staff say there was a small fire at the helicopter visible after the impact, though it is not known if the blaze started before the crash or after.

The crash is still under investigation.

Airport officials say Minuteman Aviation had been doing training on Friday.
