Hospice event moving forward, despite robbery
MISSOULA, Mont. -

A Missoula event will take place September 6th, even though somebody broke into the Hospice Care Foundation's offices in downtown Missoula just three weeks before the major fundraiser.

Hospice managers tell NBC Montana somebody broke in to their offices on East Main last week, stole a computer, petty cash and other items, and vandalized the place.  Important information was on the computer, including all the planning items for Hospice Honors, one of the organizations two major fundraisers of the year.    The money provides grants to Hospice and Palliative Care programs across Western Montana.

CEO, Kevi Berger says, "They really rely on those funds from us.  So, we didn't want to cancel our event.  We wanted to make sure that everybody knew that we are still having that at MCT and that tickets are available. We would love to have the public join us."

Police tell us investigators have recovered one item that was stolen and are processing it to find clues in the case.

The following is a press release we received about Hospice Honors.

The Show Must Go On

The Hospice Care Foundation (HCF) office was broken into and robbed just a week ago.  For a nonprofit organization, this can be devastating in a myriad of ways including:  decreased feeling of workplace safety for employees, loss of confidential data and documents, replacing stolen or damaged equipment and supplies, decreased programming activities during the clean-up and rebuilding phase and much more.  These results are in addition to the organization having to work twice as hard to raise funds to compensate for the insurance deductibles, staff work hours and replace stolen funds and equipment.

The break-in happened just a mere three weeks prior to our annual Hospice Honors event.  This event is just one of our two annual events (Hospice Ball is the last Friday in February each year) and helps to raise the funding necessary to carry out quarterly granting programs to Hospice and Palliative Care Providers.

The time and effort taken by staff and volunteers to put the office back into shape get a new computer up and running and then continue to work on our special event is greatly appreciated.  HCF chose not to cancel the Hospice Honors event as it helps to raise funds which are imperative to the providers to whom HCF grants money each quarter.  Hospice Honors will take place as scheduled on 09.06.13 at the MCT Center for the Performing Arts beginning at 6pm with a VIP pre-party.

HCF is aware that there are so many generous community members in Missoula.  We would ask that anyone not busy on September 6th, help us celebrate the work that our local hospice and palliative care providers do on a daily basis.  If you or anyone you know is interested, please visit www.hcfmissoula.com or call (406) 541-2255 to learn more about Hospice Honors.  Join us in attending as VIP tickets are $60 each and General Admission is only $30 each.  If you cannot attend, please consider making a donation to HCF and help us carry out our events and ongoing programs.

As always, HCF is dedicated to continuing to achieve its mission of funding compassionate care activities and educating the community on hospice and palliative care options, while striving to ensure that hospice care options are available to all those in need.    We will be awarding quarterly grants to providers during our Hospice Honors event.  We are still working to establish a hospice house to Missoula.  We have joined forces with community members to achieve our goal of hosting the 2013 Honors.  We appreciate all the support we have received and look forward to continuing to provide for Missoula and the surround community!
