Idaho Romanians face removal for immigration fraud

BOISE, Idaho -

Eight Romanians who arrived in Idaho a decade ago face deportation after prosecutors say they entered sham marriages to stay in America.

Some were students, initially lured by work at the Sun Valley Resort. The group included friends, siblings and cousins from the mountains of Transylvania, famous in English vampire literature. Since then, they've established lives in America, buying homes, having children who are legal U.S. citizens and starting businesses, including a Boise waxing salon.

But U.S. Attorney Wendy Olson said all lied to stay in the country.

Since 2012, seven pleaded guilty to fraud. Another awaits proceedings in U.S. District Court in Boise.

Though it could be months before their cases go through federal immigration courts, each Romanian's fate is likely sealed: They'll have to leave, never to return.
