KALISPELL, Mont. -

A Flathead County sheriff's deputy has been cleared to return to duty after an internal review found no violation of department policy in the Oct. 10 shooting of a Columbia Falls woman during a standoff.

Sheriff's Deputy Caleb Pleasants shot at 54-year-old Michelle Gentry several times, hitting her twice, when she approached the SWAT team with a gun in her hand. The SWAT team was called when negotiators were unable to get Gentry to leave her house. She was reportedly suicidal.

Gentry was initially hospitalized in critical condition, but recovered. County Attorney Ed Corrigan says Gentry is in a hospital, but declined to say where.

Pleasants was placed on paid leave after the shooting, but Sheriff Chuck Curry says he was returned to duty based on the recommendation of the review board.
