Two J.C. Penney stores in Montana are among 33 "underperforming" stores the company is closing nationwide.
Managers say the closure of the Butte and Cut Bank stores will put about 50 people out of work.
Machelle LeProwse, the manager of the Butte store, says 32 people will lose their jobs - a dozen who work full-time and 20 who work part-time.
Manager Teresa Jordan says the Cut Bank store typically has between 15 and 19 employees.
The Montana stores are expected to close by early May.
