Kalispell man fined for prostitution
A 78-year-old Kalispell man who told police he had had sex with a prostitute after about $4,500 in forged checks were written on his account has been given a three-year suspended sentence.
District Judge Robert Allison gave Milton Courter the suspended sentence on Thursday and ordered him to pay $1,650 in fines and surcharges.
Courter pleaded guilty to paying $1,600 to the 24-year-old woman to have sex with him between September and October of 2012.
Courter's attorney argued it would be nearly impossible for his client to pay the fines and surcharges because he received only $1,200 per month in Social Security disability and pension payments. The judge noted Courter was able to come up with $1,600 for sex over a period of about six weeks.
