Kalispell Core Area Revitalization
KALISPELL, Mont. -

The Kalispell City Council will vote Monday night on a proposal to annex 40 acres of industrial property between Whitefish Stage Road, Flathead Drive, and East Oregon Lane.

The property is an abandoned gravel pit now owned by the Flathead County Economic Development Authority.

Annexing the property into the city will allow city utilities to be available, a necessary step in developing the land into a railway industrial park.

The city ultimately hopes to move the two remaining businesses that still use the downtown rail line. Thirty years ago there were more than 30 rail service business in downtown.

Helping the businesses move out of downtown will allow for the removal of the rail line that splits the downtown and the addition of a bike path.

City Planning Director Tom Jentz says this is one of the most exciting urban development projects he's ever worked on.
