KALISPELL, Mont. -

A 52-year-old Lakeside man has denied shooting and killing his neighbor, who had a restraining order against him.

Mark Bolton Ames pleaded not guilty to deliberate homicide during a hearing in District Court in Kalispell on Thursday. He remains jailed with bail set at $500,000.

Ames is charged with killing 60-year-old Harold Gordon early on Jan. 12.

Gordon was living on one side of the duplex while Ames, his wife and children were living in the other side despite the fact that Gordon and Ames had restraining orders against each other.

Ames' attorneys challenged a requirement that he have no contact with his family. District Judge Heidi Ulbricht said she would schedule another hearing if Ames' attorneys request it.
