HELENA, Mont. -

State education officials are reminding people who are studying for their GED that the last day to take the exam in Montana is Dec. 21, or earlier, depending on the schedule at their testing center.

Earlier this year, the state Board of Public Education announced it was switching from General Educational Development Testing Service to Educational Testing Service for its high school equivalency exam.

The move came after GED announced the cost of its test was going to increase from $55 to $120 next year and that the test could only be taken by computer.

The ETS HiSET exam costs $50, offers two re-takes at no charge and is available on the computer and in a paper exam. It will be available beginning Jan. 2.
