The following is a press release from the Montana DNRC:
Firefighters are responding to multiple lightning-caused fires throughout the Missoula area. At least four fires are currently being staffed by initial attack forces. Most of the fires are less than an acre and are not causing any problems. However, the Schoolhouse Fire (along Highway 12) has recently grown and additional forces are being ordered.
No homes are immediately threatened and there are no evacuations being ordered by any of these fires at this time.
Here is a summary:
Schoolhouse Fire: North of Lolo near Highway 12. Reported at around 2am, the fire had engines working on it this morning. The fire was looking good but a spot fire has grown to fifteen acres and is making a rapid uphill run. Multiple air resources (including Single Engine Air Tankers with retardant) are working to stop the fire. A 20-person Type 2 Initial Attack crew is also on scene.
North Turah Fire: East of Missoula on Bonner Mountain outside of Turah. The fire is around a half acre. Engines and helicopters are working the fire.
Davis Creek Fire: This fire is in the Davis Creek area south of Missoula. The fire is less than a 1/4 acre.
Little Park Creek: Also located in the Davis Creek area south of Missoula. Firefighters just spotted this fire and are working to get to it. The fire is less than 1/4 acre.
Resources from the Nimrod Fire are also assisting.
