MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Lowell School Health Center in Missoula held an open house on Friday to give tours of the facility and spread the word about its services.

The clinic is a satellite of Partnership Health Center, which provides primary care to medically underserved populations. Lowell School is in one of Missoula’s poorest districts, so the clinic is expected to help a lot of people.

The clinic is the first of its kind in Montana, in that it was built on school grounds and works in conjunction with the school. The project was made possible with a $500,000 federal grant, with additional funds provided by the Partnership Health Center board.

Construction ended in the fall, but staff just recently finished adding dental chairs and additional equipment.

Friday’s Open House event was a chance for the community to hear more about the services and the history leading up to the center’s opening.

“It aligns with our mission and brings awareness that in our community, people who don’t have insurance or are underserved have a hard time accessing medical care in general, so this is a perfect opportunity to partner with Missoula County Public Schools, the health department, the city, county and our hospitals to bring this to our community,” said Kim Mansch, executive director of Partnership Health Center.

The center is open every Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. It is located at 1150 Sherwood Street in Missoula.
