Fisherman gear up for MACK Days
KALISPELL, Mont. -

A three-generation Montana family made some exciting memories during Mack Days this past weekend.

On Sunday the Shima men got to spend the whole day out on Flathead Lake together. They were trying to catch fish 30 inches and smaller but they got lucky and caught four fish over 30 inches -- not quite big enough for them to qualify for the large fish.

The Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes started Mack Days as a way to reduce numbers of non-native lake trout in Flathead Lake. Mack Days events are held twice a year, in fall and spring.

The Shima men have been participating in Mack Days since the beginning.

"The last month and a half is usually fairly decent weather and you can get whole families out and there's always that chance of catching a fish worth money or catching a big one. You know, it's just fun," said Ryan Shima.

Mack Days goes until May 18 and you can sign up at anytime. Check out the Mack Days website if you’re interested in joining the fun.
