A 17-year-old Malta area boy has been sentenced to probation until he turns 21 for the October 2010 death of a 16-year-old hunting companion.
The Billings Gazette reports the boy was sentenced Monday in Phillips County Youth Court for the death of Logan Wilson. The Associated Press withheld the boy's name because he is a juvenile.
Judge John McKeon also ordered the boy to pay a $10,000 fine.
Wilson was hunting with two other teens on Oct. 23, 2010 when he died of a single gunshot to the back of the neck. The other boys gave conflicting accounts of how Wilson died.
The defendant wasn't charged until February 2013. He entered a "true" plea to negligent homicide in June.
McKeon did not order restitution because confidential settlements were reached in civil lawsuits filed by Wilson's parents.
