EVEL KNIEVEL
BOISE, Idaho -

The daredevil awarded a lease by the state and the right for a redo of Evel Knievel's unsuccessful motorcycle jump across the Snake River Canyon has met a key payment deadline.

The Idaho Department of Lands received payment of $943,000 Friday from 'Big Ed' Beckley and his company, Beckley Media LLC.

The company was among several that placed bids for the rights to a two-year lease on state endowment lands near Twin Falls. The lease includes the landing site of Knievel's 1974 attempt to clear the canyon on a rocket powered motorcycle. All the money from the lease goes to the state's public endowment, which helps support public schools.

The Texas daredevil is now planning for the 2014 jump and working to line up television and marketing deals.
