A megaload headed for an oil sands project made its way through Missoula.
The water purification unit is headed to Canada. Just last week the Montana Department of Transportation issued a permit allowing the load to travel along Highway 12 through the Northwest part of the state.
Early Tuesday morning the megaload traveled through Lolo and made its way into Missoula.
Police said between 20 and 25 protestors waited for the megaload near C.S. Porter Middle School on Reserve Street. No arrests were made.
The load traveled north on Reserve Street. One lane was shut down in both directions of Interstate 90 as it headed east before coming to a rest at the Town Pump truck stop in Bonner around 2:30 a.m.
The truck will sit there at least during the day Tuesday, it's only permitted to travel late at night.
The 225 foot megaload is one of at least nine planned to travel on two-lane routes from Idaho through Montana.
