Miles City man dies of apparent suicide in jail
A Miles City man has died of an apparent suicide in a jail holding cell.
Custer County Sheriff Tony Harbaugh says 40-year-old William Plowman was arrested Friday on a charge of partner/family member assault. He was in the holding area of the former county jail until he could see a judge and have bail set.
On Saturday afternoon, jail staff found him unconscious in his cell. Harbaugh says it appears Plowman tried to hang himself. Staff made attempts to resuscitate him and he was taken to the hospital in Miles City, where he died on Sunday.
A coroner's inquest will be held at a later date.
