Missing Bozeman man found dead in Butte

BOZEMAN, Mont. -

The following is a press release from Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement:

Officers from the Butte-Silver Bow Law Enforcement Department working with 3 dog teams from “Elkhorn Search and Rescue Dogs” and “True North Search Dogs” located the remains of a deceased adult male on Tuesday afternoon. 

From the condition of the remains it is believed the man had been deceased for 10 to 12 days.  The remains were located approximately ½ mile northwest of the Herman Gulch Trailhead at the end of Roosevelt Drive. 

Documents found with the remains indicate that the remains are those of John Flanigan, age 45.  Flanigan is a reported missing person from Bozeman. 

Flanigan’s vehicle had been located on Roosevelt Drive on the night of August 20. 

The remains have been transported by Butte-Silver Bow Coroner Lee LeBreche to the Montana State Crime Lab in Missoula for an autopsy.  Investigation is continuing.  Further information will be released when available.
