Missoula Career Fair draws in thousands
MISSOULA, Mont. -

Thursday afternoon thousands of people attended the largest career fair in Western Montana.

Montana veterans and job seekers crowded Missoula's Hilton Garden Inn trying to make connections and network.

Nearly 100 employers from around the state and region were there to accept resumes and conduct interviews.

NBC Montana caught up with one Montana veteran who, after spending over 25 years in the Marines, decided to go back to school and now he said he's looking for an IT position.

“I've done that work for about 40 years. I did it in the Marine Corps, I did it north of Drummond when I worked as a defense contractor and I'm trying to put that skill to use now here,” said James Amari.

The event was hosted by Missoula Job Service and Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve, and is one of a handful of career fairs that have taken place around the state.

We caught up with Chris Hindoien, vice chair for ESGR’s Montana branch.  He said with veteran unemployment so high, they wanted to do something to get vets jobs.

“Unemployment for service members -- both current service members and past -- is double what the state norms are, so we've been doing a series of these throughout Montana,” said Hindoien.
