Missoula county attorney still refuses to work with Feds
MISSOULA, Mont. -

Missoula County Attorney Fred Van Valkenburg was blunt about his continued refusal to cooperate with a federal investigation of his office.

NBC Montana was there Monday afternoon when Van Valkenburg spoke with a packed City Club meeting in Missoula.

The Department of Justice launched an investigation into the way the prosecutor's office handles sex assault cases.  Ever since that news broke last year, Van Valkenburg has maintained that the feds are bullying his office.

"It's sad for me to see the democratic administration of President Obama acting in this fashion,” said Van Valkenburg.

He said the same thing Monday afternoon to folks at the City Club meeting, but that didn't play well with at least one audience member.

Missoula resident Beth Hammock tells NBC Montana she doesn't believe Van Valkenburg's office is being transparent.

“It seems like that's just accountability,” said Hammock.  “In our business we compile what we do every year and we look at it and figure out if we can do it better next year and I think that's what this office should be doing too."

Federal investigators have not dropped their request to investigate Van Valkenburg's office.
