MISSOULA, Mont. -

Missoula County fire officials boosted the county's fire danger to extreme Monday.

The following is from a news release:

"Interagency wildland fire officials with the Missoula County Fire Protection Association (MCFPA) have determined fire danger within Missoula County to be EXTREME.

Recent human-caused fires have rapidly spread out of the possibility of control from initial attach resources, even the swiftest of our aerial resources. Under such conditions, local resources will become stretched thin, and more fire fighters will pour in to reinforce our efforts. In an effort to stem the number of human-caused fires in our area, local fire officials have agreed to implement Stage I Fire Restrictions, effective 12:01 am on August 1st.

Campfires in Stage I
Campfires are only allowed in specific places, as defined in the orders issued by the jurisdiction of ownership. Those wishing to enjoy a campfire need to be aware of where they are allowed, and where they are not.

Smoking in Stage I
Smoking where Stage I is in force is only allowed within an enclosed vehicle or building, a developed recreation site or while stopped in an area at least three feet in diameter that is barren or cleared of all flammable materials.
