Missoula man shot and killed during attempted burglary
The following is a release sent out by the Ravalli County Sheriff's Office.
Ravalli County Sheriff Chris Hoffman says that a Missoula man was shot and killed early this morning, (March 17, 2014), as he was apparently burglarizing a residence north west of Corvallis.
Hoffman said that the resident reported that he was awakened by noises around and in his home shortly before 4:00 AM, and when he went to investigate, he found the subject climbing through a window he had just broken. When the resident ordered the man to not move the subject turned toward him. The resident was armed with a handgun and shot the intruder who jumped back through the broken window and ran away from the home.
When deputies searched the area, they found the intruder laying on the ground, a short distance from the home. Emergency Medical Services had been staged in the area, and were able to respond immediately, but the subject was pronounced dead on the scene.
Investigation into the incident is underway, and the dead man’s name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
