MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Missoula Public Library has teamed up with Mountain Line to offer more safe and accessible amenities for bikers.

The new bike station features secure parking for bicycles. The station also has a self-serve bike repair station with tools, an air compressor and a vending machine with not only snacks, but bike essentials as well.

Mountain Line received a $134,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration.

Mountain Line board member Don MacArthur says new stations like these are important to growing Missoula's reputation as bike friendly.

"We need to support the bikers when they get to their destinations with great places to park their bike that is protected,” said MacArthur.  “We need to also provide services that allow them to maintain their bikes.  So it really does add a whole lot to the overall system to have this kind of support."

The other two current bike stations in Missoula are at the Mountain Line downtown transportation center and the Lewis and Clark transportation center on South West Higgins Avenue.

A fourth station is being planned for the Southgate Mall later this summer.
