HAVRE, Mont. -

The Montana State University-Northern nursing program's accreditation has been placed on warning status because it does not have the proper number of credentialed instructors on staff.

The Billings Gazette reports the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing notified the college of the status change Tuesday night. The warning status remains in effect until 2015, when the college will have another evaluation.

MSU-Northern Chancellor James Limbaugh said the program had an unexpected resignation just before the start of the school year.

The Havre Daily News reported earlier this month that the director of the Montana Board of Nursing and two nursing educators from Texas also were scheduled to review the program. Around 55 percent of students completed the nursing program in 2012, down from 67 percent in 2011.
