The following is a press release from DLE Agency:
Sam Schultz is the reigning USA Cycling Cross-Country Mountain Bike National
Champion and was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic Team, finishing an impressive 15th place in the Men’s XC Mountain Bike, at the London Games. Yet for all of his athletic accomplishments, it would be easy to mistake the native Missoulian—who stands 6’1, with a lean frame, shaggy red hair, and a slow,
seemingly deliberate conversation style—as anything other than the Type-A, goal-driven, elite professional athlete that he has become over the last decade. Firmly grounded by his Montana values and work ethic, Schultz has launched a partnership with the Montana Food Bank Network (MFBN) in order to raise awareness for the 1 in 7 Montanans who are struggling with hunger, including over 46,000 children. Now, with the Hammer Nutrition Missoula XC mountain bike race returning to Missoula on Saturday, the hometown Olympian has teamed up with Big Sky Brewing to launch a television PSA in support of the MFBN, and the underprivileged Montana residents it seeks to serve.
Montana Olympian + Montana Business + Montana Charity = Benefit to Montana Citizens Sam Schultz is proud of his Montana roots. He has lived and trained in the Big Sky State throughout his entire professional career and despite his expanding international travel schedule the Missoula native says he is never happier than when he returns home to Montana. After a busy 2012 season, which
included his first national title and first Olympic Games, Schultz had time to reflect on his life and interests off of the bike. “Last year was a blur,” said Schultz. “The build-up to the Games was intense and everything passed by at light speed. When the season finally wrapped and I could relax with family and friends over the holidays, I realized I wanted to expand my community involvement off the bike.”
In early January, Schultz began talking with Trinda Rieck, the Sales and Event Coordinator for the Big Sky Brewing Company, based in Missoula. “I knew that Big Sky did a lot of community outreach in Missoula and across state of Montana as a whole, and that’s something that really appealed to me,” said Schultz. The conversation progressed and within a few months, Rieck and Schultz had partnered with the Montana Food Bank Network, to raise awareness and funding for the Missoula-based charity’s statewide efforts to provide more than 8 million pounds of purchased and donated food items to hungry children and families across more than 150,000 square miles each year.
In May, Schultz shot a public service announcement (PSA) on behalf of the MFBN, which was produced by Big Sky Brewing. “It was a great opportunity to stand up and stand out, in order to draw attention to people across the state who struggle to find a meal each day,” said Schultz. “What struck me most was the number of children who are affected by this on a daily basis. I hope that my involvement will increase the attention and funding that the MFBN needs in order to continue to serve our fellow Montanans.”
With the PSA now running on local television, a longer 90-second version will be released across digital channels later this month. Schultz will also be making an appearance this Saturday at the Big Sky DLE Agency, 309 8th St, NE Washington, DC 20002, T: +1 202 296 7006, F: +1 202 296 7004, www.DLEagency.com.
