Ravalli County Commissioners sign emergency proclamation

MISSOULA, Mont. -

Ravalli County Commissioners sign an Emergency Proclamation and Order due to the Gold Pan Complex entering Ravalli County.

The following is the Emergency Proclamation and order:

RESOLUTION NO. 3063 EMERGENCY PROCLAMATION AND ORDER

WHEREAS, Ravalli County is in the midst of a dangerous fire season due to increased fuel loads, dry and hot conditions. A local fire season has been established with Resolution No. 3056 passed and approved on July 15, 2013: and

WHEREAS. the Gold Pan Fire has now entered Ravalli County and is a threat to private land, life and property; and

WHEREAS, the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office and the Director of the Office of Emergency management of Ravalli County have determined these fires and extreme conditions present life threatening danger to the residents and visitors of this county; and

WHEREAS, the volatility of the current wildfires and the potential of more fires means that law enforcement personnel may need to immediately evacuate people from any area of the county; and

WHEREAS, due to the number of fires in the region and the valley, the air quality is unhealthy and poses a public health risk; and

WHEREAS, the hot, dry and windy conditions are not expected to substantially change in the immediate future, it is determined that these wildfires present a local emergency situation. Pursuant to that determination and under the authority of the law of the State of Montana as set forth in Section 10-3-402 MCA, we hereby proclaim that a state of emergency exists for Ravalli County due to the wildfires and the dangerous conditions that have caused them,

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT pursuant to the authority of Section 10-3-405 MCA, the Ravalli County Sheriff’s Office or any law enforcement operating under its authority, may direct and compel the evacuation of all or part of the population for many areas of the county if such action is necessary for the preservation of life, disaster mitigation, response, and/or recovery,
