MISSOULA, Mont. -

The Ravalli County attorney's office has dropped state marijuana charges against a former University of Montana quarterback who is serving two years prison after being convicted of federal drug charges.

Jason Washington's attorney filed a motion July 9 seeking dismissal of the state charges, which he argued were an element of his federal convictions for conspiracy to manufacture and distribute marijuana and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

Washington was sentenced in May. Days later, Ravalli County charged Washington with distributing dangerous drugs and accountability for possession of dangerous drugs with intent to distribute. The charges alleged Washington provided an employee with marijuana and cannabis products even though the man did not have a medical marijuana card.

Washington started at Montana early in the 2005 season before being injured.
