Ravalli County Commissioners Monday implemented open burning restrictions due to hot, dry conditions.
The new rules mean no one can burn without facing a $500 fine and/or up to six months in jail.
The measure takes effect July 17 at 12:01 am.
However, campfires will be allowed as long as they are attended and completely extinguished.
All campfires must be in clear or bare areas and cannot be allowed to spread outside the fire ring, pit, grate or container.
In addition, smokers can only light up within an enclosed vehicle or building or in a developed recreation site in a cleared out area. Fireworks are also prohibited.
