The Ravalli County treasurer's office is asking for $10,000 more over last year's $430,000 budget.
The office submitted its preliminary budget request to commissioners Monday.
The money would pay for cost of living increases, longevity raises and new software to help the office run more efficiently.
The office has been operating without a full-time treasurer since interim Treasurer Valerie Stamey was put on paid administrative leave in January over late reports and uncashed checks.
Clerk and Recorder Regina Plettenberg was appointed to temporarily help guide the office, and said at this point, she is not recommending hiring any additional staff.
The budget also includes some money to keep an expert on call for questions if the new treasurer thinks it's necessary.
Plettenberg said the office is getting back to normal. She said a major goal is to cross train staff to help reduce long lines.
