Bozeman Yoga Center Rummage Sale
BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Bozeman's Warming Center still needs over $10,000 before they can open their doors this season.

That's why the Bozeman Yoga Center is hosting a Rummage Sale this weekend- with all proceeds going to the Human Resource Development Council (HRDC), which runs the Warming Center.

The shelter provides a warm, safe place for homeless men, women and families to sleep during the winter.

Donated clothes, electronics, household goods and miscellaneous items will be for sale on Saturday.

An anonymous donor has stepped forward to match all the money raised. That means every dollar spent will actually be two dollars going toward the Warming Center, in hopes they can open on time.

"I'd been wanting to get the Yoga Center involved more in doing community activities," said Bozeman Yoga Center owner Ed Scheterlak, about why he decided to host the sale. "We decided that would be a good way to try to get some money raised, and at the same time have the space used in a better way."

According to an HRDC fact sheet, last season, the Warming Center served 131 people, and the average length of stay was 17 nights.

The number of visits totaled 2,258- a 200-percent increase over the previous season.

The total operating costs are just under $100,000.

The HRDC has raised $37,000 so far, but need a total of $50,000 in order to open.

"Our three biggest costs that we see each season are our salaries- our staff to keep our folks here overnight- and then basically just our rent and our heat for this building, to make sure that folks have a place to sleep at night," said HRDC Housing Department Director Sara Savage.

People can donate items for the sale by simply dropping them off at the Bozeman Yoga Center Friday, November 8th between 5 and 8 pm.

Donors can also pay $20 to rent a table at the sale to sell their items. The $20 would go to the HRDC, and sellers would keep the profits from their items.

Folks can stop by the Rummage Sale and pick up a few treasures on Saturday, November 9th, from 9 am to 4 pm at the Bozeman Yoga Center. It's located in the Beaver Pond Plaza at 1716 W. Main Street, Suite 8A1.

Savage said the Warming Center needs to raise $13,000 more in order to open on time December 1st.

After that, the she said they'll work toward raising the the rest of the  funds to operate the full season.

"The Warming Center relies entirely on community donations," Savage said. "That's why we need the community support to hit that goal."
