The Department of Justice said the man shot by police Monday is the same person who allegedly led Butte police on a high-speed chase over the weekend.
The chase started on Harrison Avenue in Butte late Friday night. Police pursued the man all the way to Anaconda, where Anaconda police found his abandoned vehicle.
Anaconda police found him in a different vehicle on Lost Creek Road Monday.
We learned about the high-speed chase from Butte-Silver Bow police on Monday morning. They told us they recognized 45-year-old John Crisler as someone with a warrant and attempted to stop him while he was driving on Harrison Avenue late Friday night. The man sped off, and the chase began.
Police followed Crisler west on I-90 toward Anaconda. They alerted the Anaconda police. Anaconda police found Crisler's gold Cadillac abandoned.
Monday, police got a tip that the man was at 1701 Lost Creek Road in Anaconda. When officers attempted to arrest Crisler on a warrant, he allegedly tried to run them over with his car. Four officers fired at him.
Crisler is in stable condition at a Missoula hospital. None of the officers involved were injured.
Anaconda-Deer Lodge County asked the Department of Justice for assistance in this case. The DOJ is continuing the investigation, and once it is complete, it will be handed back to Anaconda-Deer Lodge County.
