Secretary charged after audit finds $9,000 missing
A Lakeside Elementary School secretary who police say embezzled about $9,000 from the Somers Classified Employee Union account faces a felony theft charge.
The Daily Inter Lake reports (http://bit.ly/11pPsOD) in a story on Saturday that Sandy Hawkes was charged in Flathead District Court.
Hawkes resigned June 5 at a Somers/Lakeside School Board meeting after the missing money came to light. Hawkes was the treasurer of the union account.
Court documents say that Hawkes told police she embezzled what she thought to be about $5,000 from the union to pay personal bills.
But an audit found that about $9,000 was missing through forged and unauthorized checks.
