RED LODGE, Mont. -

A state senator who was arrested over the weekend has been released from jail after pleading not guilty and posting a $1,500 bond.

Red Lodge City Attorney Hope Freeman says Sen. Jason Priest appeared in city court Monday by video conference from the Yellowstone County jail.

The 45-year-old Republican lawmaker was booked into the jail Saturday on suspicion of partner or family assault and resisting arrest.

A police citation says the senator used physical force to push his wife away and then fought a Red Lodge officer attempting to arrest him.

Judge Steve Muth set bond at $1,500, and a jail dispatcher said Priest had been released by Monday afternoon.

Red Lodge Police Chief Richard Pringle did not return a call for comment.

Priest's next court hearing is Feb. 27.
