Social Security numbers potentially leaked at MSU
Montana State University officials say a computer virus might have allowed access to the Social Security numbers of about 4,500 past and present school employees.
The school earlier this month mailed out letters warning of the problem discovered on March 5.
Montana State spokesman Tracy Ellig says the employees have been offered a free one-year subscription to a service designed to detect identity theft.
The school says it knows of no instances of identity theft so far resulting from the security breach.
