Stage I Fire Restrictions to take effect in parts of southwest, western Montana

Fire restrictions commence Tuesday night for several state parks
MISSOULA, Mont. -

The following is a press release from the Northern Rockies Coordinating Group:

Several western Montana Counties will implement Stage I Fire Restrictions, effective midnight tonight in the West Central Area and will remain in effect until rescinded or revoked.

The following counties will implement Stage I Fire Restrictions on all the private and state lands not under the jurisdiction of the municipalities or state or federal agencies, effective midnight tonight (August 1st, 2013):

-Butte-Silver Bow County

-That portion of Granite County lying north of Interstate 90

-Those portions of Lake County and Flathead County lying within the Flathead Indian Reservation

-Mineral County

-Missoula County, including the City Limits of Missoula

-That portion of Powell County lying north of US Hwy 12 East excluding the Helena NF and Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex

-Ravalli County

-Sanders County south and east of the Kootenai National Forest

Montana DNRC Southwest Land Office and Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks Region 2 will implement Stage I Fire Restrictions, effective midnight tonight in the West Central Area and will remain in effect until rescinded or revoked.

The West Central Area jurisdiction includes all State lands and private forested lands lying within the boundaries of:

-Butte-Silver Bow County

-That portion of Sanders County lying outside the Kootenai NF

-That portion of Granite County lying north of Interstate 90

-Ravalli County excluding the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness

-That portion of Powell County lying north of US Hwy 12 East excluding the Helena NF and Bob Marshall Wilderness Complex

-Those portions of Lake County and Flathead County lying within the Flathead Indian Reservation

-Mineral County

-Missoula County

Stage I Fire Restrictions prohibit smoking outside of buildings, vehicles and developed recreation sites, unless you are in a 3-foot diameter area cleared of all burnable vegetation.

Stage I Fire Restrictions prohibit campfires outside of approved recreation sites. A list of approved recreation sites is described below.

Devices solely fueled by liquid petroleum of LPG fuels that can be turned on and off are exempt from the order, but can only be used in areas that are barren or cleared of all overhead and surrounding flammable materials within 3 feet of the device.

Persons with a written permit that specifically authorizes the otherwise prohibited acts detailed above are exempt from the order. Any Federal, State, or local officer or member of an organized rescue or firefighting force in the performance of an official duty is exempt.

All land within a city boundary is exempt, with the exception of the city of Missoula which has implemented Stage I restrictions on all open space and conservation land located within the City Limits of Missoula.

State Parks that have improved rings and will allow campfires within those rings include Beavertail Hill, Frenchtown Pond, Salmon Lake and Placid Lake.

Fishing Access sites that have improved rings and will allow campfires within those rings include Harper’s Lake, River Junction, Brown’s Lake, Corrick’s River Bend, Clearwater Crossing, Russell Gates Memorial, Monture Creek, Harry Morgan, Ninemile Prairie, Thibodeau, Upsata Lake, Big Pine, Forks, Stuart Mill Bay, Chief Looking Glass, Johnsrud and Hannon Memorial.
