BOZEMAN, Mont. -

Severe storms ripped through southwest Montana Thursday, destroying homes and buildings, and downing trees and power lines.

NBC Montana spoke with seven southwest Montana sheriff's departments and learned Whitehall was hit the hardest.

Viewers in Whitehall sent in photos of an airplane hangar that was thrown onto I-90 and strewn about. We learned from the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department that the plane stayed in place and no one was injured.

The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department also reported a trailer home near Whitehall blew over and was completely destroyed. A woman inside was sent to the hospital, but fortunately her injuries are not life threatening.

Many power lines and trees are down in the Whitehall area. Officials are urging residents to use caution.

After making calls to Gallatin, Madison, Beaverhead, Silver Bow, Deer Lodge and Powell County dispatches, NBC Montana learned there were no other reported injuries or damage.

Meanwhile, a severe thunderstorm watch remains in effect until 2 a.m. for Gallatin, Broadwater and Jefferson Counties. Our First Alert meteorologists will continue to track the storms and keep you updated of any developing situations. Keep checking back with NBC Montana for the latest details.
