CASCADE COUNTY COURTHOUSE
GREAT FALLS, Mont. -

A 16-year-old boy who threw himself over the third floor railing as he was being led to a plea hearing at the Cascade County Courthouse remains hospitalized in stable condition.

Cascade County Sheriff Bob Edwards says that Kaleb Kuebler's condition is improving.

Edwards says medical personnel have had Kuebler standing up for brief periods of time and that he can acknowledge people's presence, but can't hold full conversations.

Kuebler was set to appear in District Court on Sept. 5 to plead guilty to raping an 11-year-old girl when he pulled away from an escort and threw himself over the railing. He fell about 13 feet and suffered a serious head injury.

A plea agreement called for Kuebler to be sentenced to 60 years in prison with 30 suspended.
