On Friday, the University of Montana gave Retired Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor an honorary doctorate of laws. O’Connor has a long history with the University of Montana. She gave an inaugural address at one of the school’s lecture series back in 1997, and she sat on a US Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel, which held oral arguments at the University in 2011.
In a press release, UM President Royce Engstrom called O’Connor a “true friend” of the University’s law school. The law school’s faculty had recommended her for the degree, and it was all given the go-ahead by the Montana Board of Regents of Higher Education and the UM Faculty Senate.
